HI! I'M ANDREA

19,341 feet, that's the height of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point on the African continent. A few years ago I had the privilege of experiencing this view from the summit. Glaciers and snow fields extend as far as the eye can see. It's not what you expect. It's not what Africa "should" look like.

As a South African by birth, a member of the African diaspora by geography, and a communicator by profession, I've always been fascinated by the way Africa is portrayed. For too long, the continent has been viewed through a lens of poverty and despair. While those circumstances do exist, as they do everywhere, there's a whole other reality that needs to be explored.

It's time for an expanded mindset, a broader view, a reshaped narrative.

Through this blog, I'll bring you context and insights from the good news Africa-focused stories I'm reading and curating and the inspiring people I meet. My hope is that they shape a more complete picture of a continent and a much bigger story that needs a new telling.
